PLANNING BOARD MINUTES

March 12, 2025

• Meeting called to order by Chairman Rejman at 6:30 pm
• February 12, 2025 Minutes approved (Daktor/DeTraglia)

New Business: None

Old Business:
Chief A. Sege, Woodgate Vol. Fire Dept: (Tabled from February 12 meeting)
Chief addressed the Board with the Department’s concerns regarding fire protection – The contract with the Town for fire protection was recently signed – with an addendum stating that the Department cannot make rescues above 28 ft.
• Specifically regarding new homes that are being built which are 3-4 stories above ground level, and additionally are set back far from the road with narrow driveways which are inaccessible to fire equipment.
• The Department’s current equipment cannot reach beyond 28 feet
• Chief suggested Site Review Law might incorporate more stringent recommendations for safety, such as possible height restrictions, and/or escape ladders, or fire escapes for buildings over 28 ft.

Several ideas and possibilities were discussed.
• Chief educated the Board on the Department’s current equipment capabilities, pre-planning, manpower, training, public education, and mutual aid availability
• Possible aids to alleviate the issue were discussed, including
o An amendment to the Site Review Law
o Codes enforcement

o Purchase of a higher ladder (which comes with issues of retro-fitting the engine carrying it, and manpower to operate it)
o Change in requirements for driveway width
o More public education

A motion was made to keep the issue on the Agenda for the April 9 meeting for further discussion. (Terry/Daktor).
