Town of Forestport
The Code Enforcement Supervisor, Tony Donatelli will be out of the office April 6th-April 10th.
We are currently reviewing our building use and access to the Town Hall for special events for the general public. To that end, we are suspending the use of the building for parties for the foreseeable future. If you have already scheduled a special event, you’re all set, however we will not be taking any more reservations at this time. Additionally, we will be upgrading our entry access to a remote keypad system in the near future. Once we have the new system installed, we will assign specific use codes for entry for not only employees, but others that have approved access to the building as well. Please be patient as we complete this switch, and as always if you have any questions please feel free to contact the Supervisor at supervisor@townofforestport.gov
Sewer District Customers – we are in desperate need of your income surveys! There are 61 households in the district, and we need a MINIMUM of 37 surveys returned in order for the study to be considered accurate. It is completely confidential and is not even being reviewed by anyone here at the Town Hall.
We have been trying very hard to secure additional grant funding for the Sewer Plant project mandated by the NYS DEC, and this income study is our last hope for additional funding. Should we not secure the grant funding, the sewer bills will rise another $12.80/month, or $153.60 per year/household. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE send these in!
There will be no Court or Court Clerk hours March 24th and March 26th.
The Town of Forestport is pleased to announce that we will be holding a 5k Road Race along with a 1 mile fun run in conjunction with Old Forestport Days this year! Details to follow!
A Defensive Driving Class is being held on Monday, May 4th and Tuesday, May 5th, 2026, from 12:30PM-4PM both days at the Forestport Town Hall. Sign-ups are with Mr. Chappell and he can be reached at 315-367-2149. It is first come, first serve.

The Gateway to the Adirondacks
The Gateway to
the Adirondacks
Forestport is the youngest town in Oneida County and one of the largest in area. Located in the northeast corner nestled in the foothills of the Adirondacks, Forestport encompasses the hamlets of Otter Lake and Woodgate, as well as Forestport.
Originally known as Smith’s Mill, and later Williamsville as well as Punkyville, the town was officially renamed Forestport after splitting off Remsen in 1869, with incorporation taking place on March 18, 1870- population at the time was 1,276. With the Black River available for transportation, the early days of Forestport were earmarked by timber cutting, and the influx of timbermen in Forestport’s early days created a niche for saloons which sprang up as quickly as the mills themselves. Often times, bartenders kept a baseball bat behind the bar to aid in keeping order, and this practice spawned the phrase “there’s no law north of Remsen”.
Today Forestport’s population is 1,535 – not a marked increase since it’s inception, but seasonal visitors swell that number greatly. As the gateway to the southwestern Adirondacks, we are proud to welcome visitors and seasonal residents alike to relish in our beautiful landscapes, lakes and rivers – enjoying the slower pace of our rural community, and taking part in all that Forestport has to offer.
