Forestport’s Annual Christmas Light Up Parade

Forestport’s Annual Christmas Light Up Parade

The Annual “Light-Up” Christmas Parade in Forestport will be staged in the parking lot of St. Patrick’s Church on River Road starting at 4:30 PM on Saturday December 13, 2025. The parade-goers will then proceed to the Memorial Park on Woodhull Road where the Christmas tree will be lit by Town Supervisor TJ Entwistle.

Santa will be escorted through the Parade by the Trackside Blazers Snowmobile Club.

The Parade will then proceed to the Forestport Fire Department where families will be directed into the Hall to meet Santa and the kids will receive their gifts.

The gifts are compliments of the community Toy Drive held on Saturday December 6 at the Wigwam Tavern and through donations by the BlackRiver Boat Works in Forestport. Members of our Forestport Book Club will provide a book to each child attending.

The Hunter Hack Farms LLC will be on hand to give free horse drawn wagon rides to all thanks to the generosity of the Kayuta Lake Association and community donations.

Refreshments will be provided compliments of the Fire Flies associated with the Forestport Fire Department.

Please be sure to “light up” your group with solar or battery-operated lights, glow sticks or flashlights and please dress warmly. Last year, there were 18 units marching.

The Parade is dedicated to the memory of the late original organizers, Parker Snead and William “Bill” Corrigan. Bill Corrigan died August 5, 2020 and Parker Snead died December 8, 2015.

This is truly a community event !!!!

Town of Forestport Hometown Heroes Banner Program

The Town of Forestport is pleased to announce that we have successfully concluded our inaugural season for the Hometown Heroes banner program! We have taken down the banners for winter and would like to thank all those that participated in this year’s program. We’d like to thank Lori O’Connor of O’Connor printing for the banners, Councilman Steve Addison for running the logistical part of the program, and Tim McGurk and Dick Winters for installation of the banners.
Anyone that would like to claim their banner may do so by contacting Tracy Terry, Forestport Town Clerk at 315-272-2890. If you would like to have your banner hung again next Spring, we are happy to store it for the winter, but please reach out to TJ Entwistle at supervisor@townofforestport.gov, or by phone at 315-796-5590 to confirm. There will be a nominal fee for rehanging existing banners in the Spring. For those of you that would like to participate in next year’s program, details will be forthcoming shortly, so please stay tuned!

Smart Driver Course through AARP

Good morning! There has been a request for the town to host a Defensive Driving course. I am reaching out to see if there is an interest. If there is one, it would most likely be held in the Spring, with a two-day session in the mornings. The cost would be $25 for AARP members and $30 for non-AARP members. Please contact Forestport Town Clerk, Tracy Terry with interest at 315-272-2890. Thank you!

    The Gateway to the Adirondacks

    The Gateway to
    the Adirondacks

Forestport is the youngest town in Oneida County and one of the largest in area. Located in the northeast corner nestled in the foothills of the Adirondacks, Forestport encompasses the hamlets of Otter Lake and Woodgate, as well as Forestport.

Originally known as Smith’s Mill, and later Williamsville as well as Punkyville, the town was officially renamed Forestport after splitting off Remsen in 1869, with incorporation taking place on March 18, 1870- population at the time was 1,276. With the Black River available for transportation, the early days of Forestport were earmarked by timber cutting, and the influx of timbermen in Forestport’s early days created a niche for saloons which sprang up as quickly as the mills themselves. Often times, bartenders kept a baseball bat behind the bar to aid in keeping order, and this practice spawned the phrase “there’s no law north of Remsen”.
Today Forestport’s population is 1,535 – not a marked increase since it’s inception, but seasonal visitors swell that number greatly. As the gateway to the southwestern Adirondacks, we are proud to welcome visitors and seasonal residents alike to relish in our beautiful landscapes, lakes and rivers – enjoying the slower pace of our rural community, and taking part in all that Forestport has to offer.
